Called to put more money towards my car loan, they said I can’t do it over the phone. Which is weird, because they let me modify my payment plan over the phone. In any case, apparently what I have to do is order cheques, drive half an hour south to my nearest bank to pick them up, then drive 45 minutes north to go drop off a void cheque since my loan is with a different bank . But attempting to order cheques online results in an error message.
Thank goodness the banks are in the future with the rest of us.

I just wish banks would run like 12-8pm for hours so working people could actually get to the bank without needing to leave work early....

Capital One won’t let me pay early for my car payments and if I do pay too early, that payment is subject to count for the month it’s paid in and not the following.

That is weird. I’d think you’d be able to just do it online.

You can go to the bank and get a void cheque. No need to order a checkbook.
Ford credit made it difficult for me to make additional payments on my truck, any payments put through online would be treated as prepayments

Or being open Saturday and Sunday!
Living in a rural area, my bank days are Monday through Friday, 10-4.
I’m lucky a lot of my days off are week days.

Our local bank is 8-4 during the week, 8-12 on Saturday. So we at least have Saturday, not that it helps when you’re trying to get money out on Wednesday when you work til 4:30 though.

Yep.
Local post office also has that issue. 9-5, closed at lunch, only open 9-1 on Saturday. When I work a stretch of days, I can’t pick up packages for a week.

Phone Call? Physical b ank? Check? Can’t you just make a payment online?
I haven’t done any of those things in years, with the exception of writing out checks for the occasional wedding gift. Every time it takes me two days to find the checkbook.
Even my mortgage re-finance was done online, they just sent someone to the house to have me sign the paperwork.

Oh man, our post office is terrible. 8-4, but they take an hour+ lunch around 11, so you can’t even get there on your lunch break.

Yeah, Capital One online, you can schedule the payments for whenever you want, but it won’t go directly to principal, there’s no option for that.
I use the websites so I don’t have to call in and wait on customer support who doesn’t understand anything I tell them.
They really just want their full interest tally unless you want to pay the whole thing off in the next 30 days.

I don’t have many complaints about Chase, but I’m lucky enough to set up my accounts in a way that they don’t get to mess with me much.
I will say that Chase’s phone customer support is about as brain dead as they come. But their automated systems allow me to do a lot of things that other banks had issues with...
and I’d stay the hell away from Wells Fargo

Our bank doesn’t have physical branches at all... everything is done online.
Even the final $20,000 invoice for the shed will be paid to the builder today via the banks Android app...

Of course, the bank would prefer you to extend your relationship with them as long as possible. They have no motivation to remove barriers to you paying down your interest sooner.

To each their own. I f you have a better experience, why shouldn’t you be able to talk to a person? Seems like a perfectly valid option.
Too many people been face- to- face with me, have smiled at me all friendly like, while literally doing the wrong thing on my account in front of me and not telling me.

Are you with one of the large 5 banks? I can do everything through my TD app. I can even pay my loan to BMW from the app, but I did have to go down and sit in a bank for 45 minutes to get them to set it up.
